Cosmic reversals brought about by a change of the human heart
It is an adaptation of Igyō-hen (the chapter about alien creatures) from Hi no Tori (Phoenix), a manga series by the legendary Japanese comic artist, Osamu Tezuka. Legend has it that taking the blood of the Phoenix would gain eternal life, and thus begins humankind's endless killings in their scramble for immortality.
In Eight Hundred Years of Hatred, Eight Hundred Years of Healing, Sakonnosuke comes to the Horaiji Temple one rainy night to seek the Buddhist nun, Yaobikuni. She has been brought up as a boy by her tyrannical father against her wish, and she wants her own identity back. Knowing that the nun has cured her father's terminal illness, she wants to stop the healing. But she is caught in a time-warp, and goes back in time over a thirty-year span. The reversal is an enlightening experience for her as she sees life differently from then on.
