Hong Kong Chamber Choir

The Hong Kong Chamber Choir was established in 1999 with a specific mission of promoting and performing demanding choral works for small size choir. The Choir also believes that a good solo vocalist can be a good ensemble singer so the Choir places great emphasis on vocal (as individual) and choral (as chorister) technique. Consequently many members are also fine solo singers on their own right.  Over the past years, the Choir has given a number of successful concerts including Schutz's Christmas Story; Handel's oratorio Alexander's Feast, Bach's St John Passion, St Matthew PassionChristmas Oratorio, Magnificat, Mass in B Minor; An Evening of Baroque Motets, Voice of the Renaissance, Handel’s pastoral opera Acis and Galatea, Vocal Delights Made in Hong Kong, Faure's Requiem, Haydn's The Creation and Purcell's Anthems.


Hong Kong Soloists

The Hong Kong Soloists (HKS) was formed in 1998 by a group of professional musicians and active performers on the local classical music scene.  The group’s mission is to offer the best class of playing in the world of classical music for medium and small sized orchestra with special focus on, but not limited to solo, orchestra and concerto works including the vocal repertoire. In so doing, HKS hopes to provide an active performance platform for local musicians in Hong Kong. HKS also hopes to introduce to the local audience some of the rarely performed works for small sized performing groups.


Carmen Koon


After graduation from the Music Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Carmen Koon was awarded a scholarship to further her studies in conducting with Professor C. A. Bünte (Celibidache's student) at Hochschule der Künste Berlin. She was awarded the Honorary Prize in the International Conducting Competition for Young Orchestra Directors in Portugal. Koon has wide range of orchestral and choral repertoire. She has arranged Xian Xin Hai’s Yellow River Cantata into an ensemble version for Chung Chi Choir world premiere performance. For opera, she has also conducted Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. She is currently the Music Director of the Chung Chi College Orchestra and Chung Chi Choir, Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Music Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.


Rosaline Pi


Rosaline Pi graduated from McGill University in Canada with a Bachelor of Music degree in voice. She also studied Physics at the same time and was awarded a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. She is currently one of the most active sopranos on local scene. She gives vocal recitals regularly. Pi is also a local expert in the performance of early music and Baroque vocal works. She has performed regularly vocal masterpieces such as the Passions, cantatas and oratorios of J.S. Bach and Handel. Apart from performances, Pi gives vocal lectures regularly on thought history in music and vocal techniques. She is the originator and promoter of her Simple Physics for Singing vocal technique. Since 2001, Pi has been a regular vocal music critic with the classical music radio. Pi teaches voice at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). In April, she published her book in Chinese on the romanticism in Schubert’s Lieder and her CD An die Musik – Schubert Lieder by Rosaline Pi. Pi graduated from the CUHK with her Master’s degree (Philosophy) in 2007. She is currently a Ph. D. candidate in the Philosophy Department of CUHK.  Her research area is phenomenology and the philosophy of religion.


Enico Luk


Enico Luk graduated from the Royal Conservatoire in Holland and the Hong Kong Baptist University. He has performed extensively in the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Germany and Hong Kong as a counter-tenor. He has appeared frequently as soloist with numerous renowned orchestras and choirs, which include the Bach Collegium Utrecht, Praetorius Blokfluitensemble Leiden in the Netherlands and Hong Kong Chamber Choir, mainly performing from Renaissance to Baroque classics. Luk has worked as a counter-tenor chorister of the Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra Choir in the Netherlands.


Sam Lau


Sam Lau started voice study when he was a medical undergraduate in Germany. He was trained at the Munich Conservatory, specializing in the repertoire of Lieder and sacred music. Since returning to Hong Kong, he has given regular recitals and appeared as soloist with many leading local choirs. Lau has performed many well-known song cycles such as Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin, Schumann’s Dichterliebe.  He also appeared frequently as soloists in many major local oratorio productions including Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, J.S. Bach’s St John Passion, Mass in B Minor, Schumann’s Requiem, Handel’s Acis and Galatea and Haydn’s The Creation.


Edmund Kwan    


Edmund Kwan has extensive experience in solo roles in both oratorios and operas. He has appeared as bass-baritone soloist with different organizations such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus, the Hong Kong Bach Choir, Opera Hong Kong, Bel Canto Singers, St. John’s Cathedral, the Learners Chorus, the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University and City University of Hong Kong. Kwan has also made recordings for the Hong Kong Oratorio Society, RTHK4, the Hong Kong Medical Association and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
