About the Programme

Throughout the history of the East and the West, music and literature had come together myriad times not only because there is a close relationship between poetry and rhythm in music, but also because composers down the ages have been inspired by various types of literature to create operas, songs, instrumental music such as symphonies and tone pictures, etc. In this forum on literature and music, Dr. Chan Hing-yan, who is on the faculty of the Department of Music of the University of Hong Kong and a composer, will meet Leung Man-tao – writer, cultural worker and commentator on topical issues - to discuss what happens when music and literature meet and more.
