About the Programme

Electric Company, a unique “orchestra” of laptop computers, is devoted to the art of musical coding! The company is staffed with ten multi-talented musician-hacker-programmers.  The company develops its own software and hardware musical instruments, exploiting the bio-sensing, gestural sensing and networking capacities of laptop computers to musical ends.

In this concert, Electric Company will render a new audio-visual version of computer music guru Paul Lansky’s Pattern’s pattern: computers are sometimes heard in random chatter, other times in conscious unison.  Lansky’s eight-channel classic subverts the default relationship between humans and machines.  Also in the concert are four brand new commissions by local contemporary music hotshots, including a “concerto” for saxophone and laptop orchestra that features soloist and YouTube-celebrity Timothy Sun.  An evening of boundary-pushing musical experiments that you cannot afford to miss.
