Programme

 

Dance Day 2013 will be the closing programme to tie with the Hong Kong Dance Festival organized by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, in commemoration of 100th Anniversary of The Rite of Spring, Dance Day 2013 will continue to pass the torch and showcase different generations of local dance talents.  Veteran and emerging dance artists as well as professional and amateur dance groups will join hands with young people to give a wide variety of delightful and exhilarating dance performances in the Plaza.  In addition, a series of participatory activities including exhibition, video screenings, sharing session and workshops will be organized.  There will also be the "Open Stage" where everyone is welcome to join in and enjoy the fun of dancing.

12 different groups, including small to medium professional modern dance companies, district amateur dance troupes and dance interest groups from tertiary institutes, will take turns to perform modern dance, ballet, Chinese dance, tap dance, Jazz dance, Hip Hop, etc.

Environmental Dance

 

Dance on Site.Dance at Sights

Dancers will perform several newly choreographed environmental dances in the surrounding area at Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza. Their dance movements will involve and include the external environment so that apart from enjoying the dance, the audience would visualize the space from a different perspective.

U CAN DANCE!

 

Apart from the participation from various professional dance groups, arts groups and dancers, an outdoor free dancing zone “U CAN DANCE !” will be designated to the public to perform all kinds of dance in the venue.

 

Programme Details

  1. The designated performing area is approximately 6m (width) x 4m (depth) with marley.
  2. Different forms of dance performance are welcome.  For each session, performers should be in a group of 2 to 10 and the length of performance should be at a maximum of 10 minutes.
  3. Audition is not required and all applications will be processed on a first-come first-served basis.
  4. Any missing materials will be counted as uncompleted applications which may possibly be delayed or not be considered or processed.

 

Application Procedures

The applicant is requested to complete the application form and send it to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Cultural Presentations Section by post, by email or in person.  Please mark “Dance Day 2013 – U CAN DANCE!” (Attention to: Dance & Multi-Arts Office) on the envelope.

1 Minute Flash Dance

 

Inspired from The Rite of Spring, Angela Hang will choreograph a dance made up of simple steps.  Instructors from Studiodanz will teach the dance movements on the Centre Stage at the following time slots and invite all visitors in the Plaza to participate, so that all participants will be able to take part in the finale.

Exhibition

 

A centenary retrospective exhibition of The Rite of Spring will be held.  It will showcase the unique creative concepts of its various versions down the years through image design and costume design.

Screening & Sharing

 

The Rite of Spring of two different versions will be shown with sharing session to give the audience a more in-depth understanding of the work, in terms of history and symbolic meaning.

Professional dance companies will conduct free dance workshops for different age groups to encourage the public to enjoy dancing. In so doing, it is hoped that this would promote dance art at community level.
