Transcript of Secretary for Home Affairs on Community Torch Relay

Following is the transcript (English portion) of remarks to reporters made by the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, after the conclusion of the Community Torch Relay today (April 18):

Reporter: ...... today there was no demonstration.? How would the government deal with any demonstration that day?? Thank you.

Secretary for Home Affairs: The trial run on the whole today has gone on smoothly.? It has proved that the route is feasible. It has gone through the major parts of the town, many scenic spots, and could be used as the route for our torch relay.? We will make a round up of what happened today and improve upon it. When we actually have the torch relay on May 2, we will expect large crowds coming out to cheer the torch bearers on the way.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
