The Moon, being our only natural satellite, is the closest celestial body to the Earth. Though lying afar in space, the Moon is closely related to us. Columbus, who had discovered the New World, changed his fate because he knew a lunar eclipse beforehand. Tides are also mainly produced by the gravitational pull from the Moon.

As the rotation of the Moon is synchronous with its revolution around the Earth, the Moon always presents the same face to the Earth. This face, known as the near side, has darker regions called mares which in fact are flatter regions. The far side permanently facing away from the Earth can only be seen from spacecraft. This side is more rugged than the near side.

The latest Sky Show "The Moon Revisited" will introduce different phenomena of the Moon, review the great Moon-landing feat and explore future lunar missions through multi-media and special effects.

The Apollo 11 Lunar Module landed in the Sea of Tranquillity.

The surface of the Moon is covered with regolith. As there is no weathering and erosion, the footprints left by astronauts would remain for million of years.

Man first landed on the Moon in 1969. Yet, some people believed that the landing was faked. The Sky Show will examine and analyse various Moon hoax theories. After the last Apollo mission in 1972, no one set foot on the Moon again.

But in recent years, interests in the Moon are rekindled in various countries. The US, Europe, Japan and China were all planning for lunar exploration. The US decided to return to the Moon in fifteen years to establish lunar bases for future expeditions to Mars.

Starting from Apollo 15, astronauts were equipped with rovers to enable them to explore a wider area.
