The Island of Santorini
Once destroyed by a gigantic volcanic eruption in 1646 B.C., Santorini is now a circular archipelago of volcanic islands located in the Aegean Sea. Some archaeologists found traces of a Bronze Age city on this island.

At the cliffs of Santorini, geologists found the distinct ˇ§fingerprintˇ¨ of volcanic eruption ˇV the layers of debris. By studying them, geologists can trace each phase in the process of the great eruption taken place there more than 3,000 years ago. |
