When the Glen Canyon Dam was completed in 1963, it changed the flow of the Colorado River forever. Lake Powell, one of the
river's man-made lakes, is now only half-full after years of drought. The white band above the water
is the place where the lake's waterline used to be.

Satellite images taken in different years show that ninety percent of the Lake Chad in Central Africa has vanished due to climate change and fast growing population. Fresh water is being depleted rapidly worldwide. According to the United Nations, it is estimated that 1.1 billion of people suffered from shortage of fresh drinking water in 2002, and that the figure is expected to grow to 3.4 billion in 2050.
