The canyon is approximately 1.6 kilometres deep. From rim to rim, it ranges from 180 metres to 30 kilometres wide. Measuring all the twists and turns of the river, the canyon is 443 kilometres long. The Grand Canyon is probably the world's most spectacular example of the power of erosion. It is the power of rushing water, rain, snow, heat, frost and wind that has created this canyon. The erosion process has taken 3 to 6 million years to sculpture the Grand Canyon, and is still going on.
