Apollo 11, launched July 16, 1969, manned by Neil A. Armstrong, Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr., and Michael Collins was the first successful moon-landing mission. During this flight, Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the Moon on July 20 at 8:17 PM Greenwich Mean Time. Armstrong stepped onto the Moon's surface at 2:56 AM GMT. After Apollo 11, there were all told six more attempts, of which five of them succeeded (Apollo 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17 succeeded. Apollo 13 failed). Including the Apollo 11, altogether there were 12 astronauts setting their foot on the Moon so far.
