Image Height

Question:
How big should the mirror be so that your whole body is visible?

Instructions:
1. Face the mirror. Adjust the black curtain on both ends of the mirror so that the image of your whole body is just visible.
2. Read the height of the mirror from the ruler next to it. What is the relation between the your height and that of the mirror?

Why?
The image formed by a plane mirror has the same size as the object. It is also equally distant from the mirror as the object. Therefore, looking into a mirror is actually equivalent to looking through a window at another "you". Using simple trigonometry, we can easily find that the height of the mirror required is just one-half of your body height. Please note that the mirror should be placed as shown in the diagram.
