Introduction

The Poles are the cleanest places on the planet Earth. However, these last pristine areas are fast deteriorating due to environmental pollution and climate changes, leading to breaking and melting of ice shelves, pollution of icebergs as well as rapid and drastic changes of the natural environment and ecosystems there. Expert statistics reveal that the current situation of environmental pollution has already exceeded the capacity of the Earth. Besides, global warming has led to extreme climate changes, causing more frequent natural disasters such as droughts, inundations, hurricanes, heat waves and tornadoes, melting of glaciers, rising of sea level, outbreaks of diseases and even extinction of species, etc. These phenomena send forth a serious warning for our continual destruction of the natural environment.

The exhibition aims at raising public’s awareness on the serious consequences of global warming as well as the close relationship between polar scientic observation and environmental protection. The exhibition appeals to all to care for the Earth, and take part in protecting the environment.

Exhibition period: 16.5.2009 - 4.11.2009
