The Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture lies in the west of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. It comprises more than ten ethnic groups, among which the Yi people alone makes up about one quarter of the population. The prefecture has inherited the long-lived and rich culture of the Yi people. It preserves the archeological finds of the Yuanmou Man dating back to 1.7 million years ago, a rich source of earliest dinosaur fossils and the earliest bronze drum (about 690 BC) in the world. The Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture is therefore renowned as "Homeland of the Dinosaurs", "Oriental Cradle of Mankind", "Homeland of Bronze Drums" and "Spectacular Garden of Yi Culture". This exhibition is made up of three sections namely, "Yuanmou Man", "Bronze Culture" and "Yi Culture", that introduces the history and culture of the Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture through texts and exhibits.
