Here's candy with a tasty twist - "Candy Unwrapped" is an exhibition that satisfies your mind even as it tickles your taste buds. This interactive exhibition explores the science behind the delicious and engaging world of candy and other yummy treats. It features 17 groups of interactive exhibits and a demonstration programme which uncover the surprising biology, chemistry, physiology and psychology behind the world of candy. When you enter this gala, you will:
Explore how taste and your other senses, such as sight and smell, are used by the human body to determine what tastes good. You can tempt your taste buds with two taste experiences: the super sour challenge to learn the biological point of puckering, or the jelly bean test to discover the difference between taste and flavour.
Examine the structure and the many uses of sugar. You can take a history lesson on chocolate and see how chocolate bars are made. Sugar is more than just a sweet treat and has qualities that are useful in many things. You can also see how sugar can be used to heal a wound.
Enjoy the rich history and cultural diversity of candy and other yummy treats from around the world. You can discover the fascinating stories behind treats from a dozen countries, from Chinese ginger candies to Nigerian puff-puffs. You can also take a look at the past and present extreme candies and see how some of them have still remained popular in the modern times.
Experience the memories and the romantic powers associated with treats you love. You can take a whiff of a range of smells and experience it for yourself. Will chocolate lead you to romantic thoughts? You can enter a boudoir and learn about the cultural legacy and intriguing chemical properties of chocolate.
