China established the first astronaut training centre, the Space Flight Medical Research Centre

The first Chinese satellite, Dongfanghong (Red East) 1, was successfully launched using the Changzheng-1 rocket

The first Chinese retrievable satellite was successfully launched
 
1/1992
The manned space programme "Project 921" was publicly announced.
Chinese Academy of Space Technology was assigned to design the manned spaceship
 
   
10/1996
Two astronauts were sent to Gagarin Cosmonauts Training Centre in Russia for a one-year training programme. Upon return to China, they became instructors of Chinese astronauts training projects
