School Visit Programme
During school visit, students can visit our exhibition halls freely and take part in various interesting activities* including:

Schools can choose to visit permanent or special exhibition halls. Guided by the experienced docents, students can deepen their understanding on the science knowledge behind the exhibits with on-site explanation.

A number of interesting and educational films will be shown to help students explore the mysteries of science and learn the scientific knowledge in a funny and carefree way.

| Fun Science Demonstration |
To enhance the knowledge of students about the relationship between science and daily lives and to arouse their interests in science, a series of fascinating demonstrations covering different science topics will be conducted to explain the ordinary scientific phenomena.

| Liquid Nitrogen |
This session introduces some funny and interesting phenomena occur at the low temperature of minus 196 degrees Celsius. |
| Electricity & Magnetism |
This session contains descriptions of the characteristics of static electricity and principles of lightning rod; and demonstrations of using electrostatic generators with which original hairstyles will be created for participants! |
| Transportation |
Aided with model boats for demonstration, this session introduces the principles of operating hovercrafts and sailing boats. |
| Artificial Clouds |
To demonstrate at scene the formation of two kinds of cloud containing water droplets and ice crystals respectively, and the audience can have a try to touch the "products". |
| Molecular Gastronomy |
This demonstration will adopt Chemistry to an innovative cooking method and bring our attention to the importance of food safety. |

- Successful applicants will be informed of the details about the above activities upon approval of application.
- Activities will be held according to the availability of venues and docents. All applications will be handled on a first-come-first-served basis.
- Guided tours and film shows are fixed with quotas for applicants on a first-come-first-served basis.
- For fun science demonstration, please check the latest programme schedule by the side of the 1/F Visitor Service Centre. Programmes are subject to change without prior notice.
Eligibility
Kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools and post-secondary institutes registered in Hong Kong (except private schools offering non-formal curriculum Note 1) are eligible for application.
Admission fee will be waived for school groups with 20 or more teachers and students, and at least 15 students among them upon approval of application. For groups with visitors less than 20, teachers and students are required to pay for admission.
(Remarks: Waiving of admission fee is applicable to students and teachers only, for schools with parents / volunteers, please contact our staff for details of admission fee before the date of visit.)
Note 1: According to the guidelines from Education Bureau, apart from schools offering post secondary, secondary, primary, kindergarten and nursery education, private schools offering educational courses such as tutorial, commercial, language and computer courses are all categorised as private schools offering non-formal curriculum.

Method of Application
Application for school visits can be made through telephone booking at 2732 3220 during office hours (Monday to Friday: 9 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm, except public holidays) at least 2 weeks and at most 3 months in advance before the date of visit. On the morning of the first working day of each month, the Science Museum will accept telephone booking of school visits scheduled within the next three months. For instance, if a visit is scheduled in April 2011, the applicant can make the booking at 9 am on 1st January 2011. Please submit the completed application form to the Museum by mail (stating "Application for School Visit" on the envelope) or fax (at 2311 2248) within one week after the telephone booking. Otherwise, the booking will be cancelled. Application submitted within two weeks before the date of visit will not be considered.
Visits will be arranged on a first come, first served basis.

Post-visit Activities
After the visit, teachers and students can share the experiences of what they learnt during the visit. Besides, they can go over the questions in the activity sheets and carry out related learning activities. An evaluation form will be distributed to the schools on the date of visit. Teachers are welcome to give us their valuable comments and suggestions. |
