    Old Pathological Institute (Caine Lane, Sheung Wan)

     
    At the end of the 19th century, bacteriological studies in Hong Kong were still underdeveloped. It was not until 1905 that a permanent Bacteriological Institute was constructed at Caine Lane. This elegant red-brick building was renamed the Pathological Institute after World War II and was later occupied by the Department of Health as a medical store. It has been recently converted to the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences managed by the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences Society.

    		 Old Pathological Institute, Caine Lane, Sheung Wan
    Tuesdays to Saturdays: 10:00am – 5:00pm.
    Sundays and Public Holidays: 1:00pm – 5:00pm.
    Closed on Mondays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and the first 3 days of the Lunar New Year.
    Closed at 3:00pm on Christmas Eve and Chinese New Year's Eve.

    It takes about 20 minutes to walk to Old Pathological Institute from Wing Lok Street Exit of Sheung Wan Station.
