The Young Friends of Heritage (YFOH) Pilot Scheme 2004, first launched by the Antiquities and Monuments Office in the summer of 2004, was well-received by teachers and students. It is hoped that youngsters would recognize the importance of heritage preservation and learn how to treasure cultural relics after joining the training programme and participating in voluntary services.

In order to enhance the understanding of teachers and students towards the scheme, AMO has trained 150 secondary school students to become YFOH in the last 3 years. The students are required to complete a series of training programme, which included visits to the Legislative Council Building, Lui Seng Chun, Ping Shan & Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail. They have also participated in archaeological and experience sharing workshops. These YFOH have been participating actively in different heritage promotional activities and providing voluntary services, such as producing the YFOH webpage, organizing activities and assisting in monument cleaning work. They work hard on the mission of promoting heritage conservation at the school and community level.
