Campaign for Collection of Cheongsam

One of the core collections of the Hong Kong Museum of History comprises cheongsam primarily from the late Qing up until the 1960s. To compile a more comprehensive record of the evolution of this traditional Chinese dress, we would like to extend our collection to encompass cheongsam and related items from more contemporary times. What we are especially looking for are:

1)   cheongsam from different periods, especially from the 1970s up to the present, that:

  •   were worn at weddings, banquets and other formal occasions
  •   were produced by contemporary fashion brands
  •   blend Chinese and Western elements
  •   feature elements prevalent at the time they were made

2)   magazines containing a large number of images of cheongsam

3)   books, advertisements and tools related to the tailoring and making of cheongsam

4)   images of women wearing cheongsam in different periods
