The exhibition features the history, culture and relics of the Qin dynasty, an epoch-making era that witnessed the unification of China and the formal intergration of the southern regions, including Hong Kong, into the empire. The legal and political systems, the provincial and prefecture system, the unified weights and measures, currency and language, as well as the construction of the chidao (speedways), zhidao (straight road), Ling Canal and the Great Wall had helped lay down a strong foundation of the dynasties that followed and had great impacts on the future generations.
This exhibition is one of the highlight programmes to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It showcases 120 items/sets of invaluable relics, in which about 40% are grade one cultural relics. The exhibition is supplemented by six sets of innovative multimedia presentations using high technology to introduce the history and cultural heritage of the Qin dynasty or to interact with visitors in order to bring a unique visiting experience to visitors.
To tie in with the exhibition, the Hong Kong Museum of History has produced exhibition catalogue and booklet to introduce the history of Qin, the construction and cultural relics of the Mausoleum of Qin Shihuang as well as China's policy on the conservation of national large-scale sites of Qin Culture.
The attendance (over 420 000) of this exhibition broke the record for all thematic exhibitions held at the museum since its opening, has won the Gold Prize of Team Award (General Public Service) of the Civil Service Outstanding Service Award Scheme 2013.
