The historic value of the Hong Kong 1 mil coin (1 mil is equivalent to a thousandth of a dollar) is high in the local history because it was not only the first batch of local currency but also the earliest coinages minted in 1866 by the first mint in Hong Kong which was closed down in 1868 after a few years' production at Causeway Bay.
