Airport is a place of convergence and transit for peoples of different nations. It is also a symbol that marks the communication of different nationalities and cultures. The Hong Kong International Airport, which is acclaimed as a world-class airport, also plays a vital role to foster cultural exchanges.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department have contributed a selection of representative works by Hong Kong artists from the collections of the Hong Kong Museum of Art at the Departures Hall of the Hong Kong International Airport.
In the current exhibition, three Hong Kong artists have chosen to use white porcelain to demonstrate the new concepts of re-casting objects. Their works explore themes, traditional techniques and spatial representation, exhibiting a dynamic modern quality. White marble contains rich natural patterns that make white even more vibrant. The weight, texture, shape and natural tone of the rock often give artists flashes of creativity, leading them to explore their topics from a unique perspective. In this exhibition, four artists display sculptures marked by elegant simplicity and beautiful lines. The dominant themes are the vicissitudes of life and the subtleties of human bonds. It seems as if the artists are trying to anchor life and consolidate relationships using the weight of white marble.
If the rainbow symbolizes a colourful life, it is white that makes the variety of colours glow.
Venue of exhibition: Near Gate 35, Level 6 Departures, Passenger Terminal Building, Hong Kong International Airport
