Infra-red Reflectography System

Picture: Infra-red Reflectography System

Infra-red reflectography system makes use of the properties of infra-red radiation which can penetrate the surface thin layers of colour pigments and to reveal the layers below. By using a special infra-red telecamera to capture the radiation reflected from the surface of an object (generated from an infra-red generator), linked to a monitor, we can record images (reflectograms). This technique, when applied to paintings, is the best to point out the artist's preliminary drawing (usually graphite/carbon) and in many cases, previous restorations.
