Special Lecture: The Heroic Deeds of General DAI An Lan

General Dai An Lan was a famous Chinese general in the War of Resistance Against the Japanese. He participated in the Northern Expedition after his graduation from the Whampoa Military Academy, and he had since served with much merit in the war against the Japanese. After the Pacific War broke out, General Dai led the vanguard of the Chinese Expeditionary Force in early 1942 into Burma(Myanmar) in support of British operations against the Japanese there. In Burma(Myanmar), Dai and his troops had successfully fended off Japanese attacks when vastly outnumbered. In May, Dai was unfortunately shot, and because of the lack of medications Dai died of wound infections at the age of 38. In recognition of his distinguished service, he was posthumously named as a revolutionary martyr.

The Museum, with the help of The Chinese Patriot Elites Charity Foundation, is honoured to have invited Mr Dai Ching Dong, son of General Dai, to give a lecture on his father’s heroic exploits fighting the Japanese.

Battle for a Barren Rock (conducted in English with interpretation in Cantonese)

Nobody seemed to believe that the Japanese would attack Hong Kong in 1941 and Hong Kong was clearly inadequately prepared for the swift attack. The talk is to give an overall picture of what happened during the 18 day battle for Hong Kong and some of the main events during the 3 years 8 months of imprisonment in POW camps, including the dramatic Motor Torpedo Boat escape, the executions, the sinking of the Lisbon Maru and the final Liberation of Hong Kong.
