Gallery 10: The Volunteers (1854-1995)
This gallery used to be a test room. Now it explains in details why and how the Volunteers were formed in 1854, their development in the 19th century and between the two World Wars, their bravery during the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong in 1941, their reorganization in the post-war years and their disbandment in 1995. On display are uniforms, medals, arms, equipment, photo albums and documents specially selected from the Volunteers' collection. Apart from these, there is also a machine gun crew diorama depicting the gallant last stand of men from No.2 Company of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps in the vicinity of Stanley Village in the night of 24 December 1941.
