Gallery 8: The Battle for Hong Kong (1941)

Originally a casemate for soldiers, this gallery deals with the rise of Japanese militarism, the Anti-Japanese War in 1937, the Japanese assault on Hong Kong in December 1941, the subsequent battles and the fall of Hong Kong. In order to give the visitors a full account of these historical events, a video on the Battle for Hong Kong is shown in this gallery. Also displayed is a scale model to depict how the Japanese troops engineered the Lugouqiao (Marco Polo Bridge) Incident on 7 July 1937, which signalled the embarking of her ambitious plan of conquering the whole of China. The display of related artefacts such as Japanese and British army uniforms, weapons and equipment will provide visitors with a full picture of this important chapter in the history of Hong Kong.
