Gallery 6: The British Period (1861-1941)
Formerly an engine room, this gallery now presents the development of the British coastal fortifications after 1860, renovations in artillery technology and the life of early British soldiers in Hong Kong. Part of a British barrack room is meticulously recreated to feature the indoor life of British soldiers in the early years. In addition, a number of different types of uncased shells unearthed in various parts of Hong Kong can be found. Innovations in artillery technology are explained. Exhibits relating to the British army such as uniforms and equipment are also displayed.
