SAORI is a hand-weaving method originated in Japan. Since 1968, SAORI has spread to more than 40 countries. This is an art form that is both easy to master and inspirational, allowing people of different levels of ability to freely express themselves by creating an artwork with individual style. Finding oneself through SAORI is an art activity suitable for any person in any community.

Salvation Army Rehabilitation Service has taken up SAORI weaving since 1998, started from one client learning the skills, they have now over 60 clients on the project. In this project, we have invited SAHK, The Salvation Army and Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Graden to join us as partners. Veteran cloth artist, Ms Edith Cheung, will be the workshop tutor. The volunteer groups of The Salvation Army will also assist in coaching the participants and provide the looms for their use. A series of SAORI workshops will be held in the parentsˇ¦ resources centres, workshop and hostel under the SAHK. Day trips will be organized to enable the participants to enjoy to splendour of the natural beauty in the Kadoorie Farm, where they can collect different kinds of natural materials for weaving. After all the workshops have completed, we will collect the works of the participants for public exhibition.
