2 in 1¡X Works by Luke Ching Chin-Wai
Seeing himself as an outsider, artist Luke Ching deconstructs and then observes the city where he lives in, which is in-between real life and ornamental. Ever since the handover of Hong Kong in 1997, people in Hong Kong has been living under the unprecedented social system of "One Country, Two Systems". As a typical and local citizen who was born and lives in Hong Kong, Luke attempts to construct and deconstruct the city and display his living experiences of "One Country, Two Systems" aesthetically.
In this exhibition, Luke was inspired by the concept of "One Country, Two Systems". He looked for the possibilities of construction (1 in 2) and destruction (2 in 1) from the city, and attempted to classify the possibilities in different ways. Through his artistic representations, Luke displays the objects, concepts and systems that we have long been accustomed to in a brand new way, and tries to enlighten us with a fresh notion towards the "One Country, Two Systems".
