Artist in Residence Programme : Cedric Maridet

To support and promote the development of Hong Kong art, the Visual Arts Centre is organizing a new series of Artist in Residence Programme to invite the participation of the Award winning artists of the "Hong Kong Art Biennial 2005". The residency period of each participating artist is three months and the Centre will be providing studio facilities and exhibition space for their creative works, as well as organizing a number of associated activities. The residency of Cedric Maridet is from July to September 2006.

Resident Artist : Cedric Maridet

Cedric Maridet is a French sound artist who works and lives in Hong Kong since 1999 and is currently a full-time PhD candidate in media art in the School of Creative Media, City University of HongKong. He is the founder of Hong Kong based electronic music label moneme. With performances and exhibitions in Hong Kong and New York, his solo and collective works has been released on a compilation M001 (moneme, 2004). He has been awarded with a Prize ofExcellence in the Hong Kong Art Biennial 2005 for his video Huangpu, and he has recently released an audio CD, habitus, based on a real-time performance.

Workshop : Hong Kong Soundscape

The workshop will focus on listening attitudes and competences, and on the familiarization of the participants with the theory of acoustic ecology of Murray Schafer. During the workshop, participants will be exposed to critical listening sessions and learn the basics of digital sound recording through concentrated listening in indoor or outdoor environments and on certain types of sound, so that the participants can generate their own soundwalks (a listening guide map).

In order to share these soundwalks, the participants will also learn how to enrich, edit and transform their recordings into Podcasting and by using audio software Garage Band. Every week, participants will enrich a website with pod-casts of their production.
