Traces of Tranquility ¡V The Calligraphy of Fung Yat-fung

Fung Yat-fung, originally named Fung Chum-wah, aliases yijie guren and zhanran jushi, was born in China in 1960. With his work Ode of Hai Ou, he won the Prize of Excellence in the Hong Kong Art Biennial in 2005. Fung first learned Chinese calligraphy from his brother and then studied under accomplished calligraphers Mr Fan Yau-sun and Mr Chan Man-kit in 1983. In 1986, he was professionally trained as a Chinese painting and calligraphy mounting specialist. Recently, he learns with the renowned calligrapher and scholar Huang Junshi to study and research on Shupu (The Manual on Calligraphy). Fung is particularly proficient in Shupu and has written it over a hundred times to grasp its essences. Together with his prized work Ode of Hai Ou and his latest version of Shupu, the exhibition show-cases about twenty other Fung's works in clerical, running and cursive styles. These works done over a period of twenty years are traces of Fung's artistic developments that demonstrate his unremitting pursuit of excellence in calligraphy.
