To embellish our community's
daily life with the widest possible range of visual art activities,
the Leisure and Cultural Services Department set up the Art Promotion
Office (APO) in early 2001 to further the efforts in the promotion
of visual arts in Hong Kong. The APO is accommodated in the Hong
Kong Visual Arts Centre (VAC). Converted from a former British
barrack block - Cassels Block, the VAC building itself reflects
a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. So much as it retains
the western building style of the nineteenth century, it enjoys
the benefits brought along by modern architecture - contact with
nature through the modernistic glass roof on a metal frame spine.

Through the organization of territory-wide activities in community art and public art, as well as providing professional studios and facilities, the APO is dedicated in providing high quality wide-ranging visual arts activities and services for the public. Through proactive approaches, the APO builds up strategic partnerships with artists, relevant institutions and art organizations, and work together with them in organizing quality activities to meet the increasing and ever-changing public demands and to facilitate their enjoyment of artistic creation and participation. The APO also provides one-stop service to artists to assist their artistic development.
