Kiddy Stone's Night Battle with the Five Tiger Generals

This early Yu Kai film was directly resulted from the box office success of The Birth of Kiddy Stone, also starring the young prodigy performer. Yu Kai plays Li Chun-hao (a.k.a. the Kiddy Stone), one of Li Hak-yong’s legendary 13 Grand-guardians. Well-loved by his father Hak-yong (Cheung Tin-sang) and his mother (Ma Ying) for his intelligence and bravery, Kiddy Stone is also the subject of envy for two of his brothers. Even though the two brothers set various traps to eliminate him, Kiddy Stone always manages to stay alive thanks to his quick wits. At just 10 years old, Yu convincingly portrays a heroic young warrior, combining difficult wire work with genuine martial arts skills. The film created an awe-inspiring hero persona, delighting his audiences with a hero they can all look up to and fantasise about. The scene in which a group of older women fall in love with the Kiddy Stone reflects how hero admiration can simply be a thin disguise for sexual desire – an interesting sign of the times and its people.
