Adapted from the Italian children’s novel The Education of Love and a participant of the Venice Film Festival, the film stars talented child actors who play pupils from different backgrounds who grow through their teacher’s love and learn about life. The most touching story is that of the bright and studious but oft-misunderstood Baldie, played by none other than future kung fu superstar and director Sammo Hung who made his silver-screen debut in this film. Charming, obedient and introverted, Baldie lost his mother at a very young age. He lives with an alcoholic father who beats him up whenever he is drunk, yet he studies hard and is protective of his father. The nine-year-old Hung shows himself to be a skillful actor. When falsely accused, he swallows his pride in silence as tears swell up in his eyes. Sammo's sensitive acting and the camera combine to paint a heart-wrenching picture.
