The seven-year-old Fung Bo-bo shows her mastery of two roles here: the sharp-tongued Ling who earns a living reading comic books to other children, and a little cosmonaut with super powers. Ling is abducted by the evil gangster Tiger. Luckily her elder brother meets the cosmonaut from comic strips who returns to earth to save Ling. Inside the kidnappers’ den, the leader Dragon and his sister Lina try to exploit the cosmonaut for their illegal dealings, but Ling comes up with the idea of exchanging identities with the super hero. With that and the cosmonaut’s special powers, all culprits are apprehended. The classic local snack ‘crispy coated peanuts’ is a motif in the film. Hilariously, it’s the reason the food-loving super hero comes to earth. The popular street snack echoes the scene of Victoria Harbour at the opening, lending this fantastical title much local flavour.
