In the first film which she both directs and writes, Ivy Ho tells the story of an office romance where an office worker (Karena Lam) secretly admires her boss (Ekin Cheng). What sounds like a familiar theme is everything but in close inspection. In Ho’s own words, “Claustrophobia is not a typical romance film. The story is fragmented with incomprehensible doubts in each of the episodes. It’s just like I have only offered part 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 of the story and the audience would have to fill in the odd-numbered parts themselves.” The brilliance in the restrained, subtle and never acknowledged affections offer the audience a chance to fill in the blanks, to participate and think over. Winner of the 15th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards for Best Screenplay. The film will be followed by a bonus screening of a 30-minute episode titled Pa of the drama series Profile scripted by Ivy Ho for Radio Television Hong Kong in 1984. (Without Subtitles)
