Yam Kim-fai (1913-1989), remembered by many for her elegant acting and natural and compassionate singing voice, is having her 100th birth anniversary next year. Yam’s stage and screen performances had gone through a career that spread from the 30s to the 60s, with over 300 film titles being made since the early 50s. The Film Archive is taking this opportunity to showcase 10 films of Yam Kim-fai, with a selection that covers a number of her screen partners. The programme is organised as an echo to the “2013 International Seminar on Cantonese Opera in Memory of the Centenary of Madam Yam Kim-fai”, organised by “Yam Kim Fai Research Project” to be held from Jan 12-13, 2013 at the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong: www.yamkimfaiseminar.net.
