Coming to the last volume of Ba Jin’s The Torrent Trilogy, the Ko family is tragically shattered by feudalism. Experiencing separations and death of lovers, Sun (Ng Cho-fan) finds himself collecting the ruins of his life; while his younger brother Man (Cheung Wood-yau), more advanced in thinking, is ready for a rebellion with Sun. Breakthrough requires courage, but is only obtained through endless sacrifices. Director and scriptwriter Chun Kim managed to fabricate an emotionally intense story, witnessing the collapse of feudal family structure, demonstrating the sadness and triumphs of a generation grappling with a stifling social order.
