One of the three Japan-Thailand-Hong Kong co-productions by Hsin Hwa, director Ma Xu Weibang’s remake of his 1939 film The Leper Girl (1939) integrates elements of Thai culture and state-of-the-art Japanese special effects. Surasit Sattayawong stars as a Thai-based Chinese man who goes to Hong Kong to treat his illness. After his relationship with a leper girl (Chung Ching) is rejected by his parents, the man returns to Thailand. Heartbroken and terminally ill, the man heads into the jungle and encounters a giant serpent that will change his life. Even though the film was shot in color, the Hong Kong Film Archive could only obtain a blackand-white print of the film for this screening.
