Yuen already shows his talent with some poised and natural acting in this film debut. The film follows the decline and fall of the affluent Yeung family. After the passing of Mr. Yeung, his spoiled son not only fires his father’s adopted son Wai-choi and the sonin- law Bak-kwan, but also loses his wealth to an escort girl. Meanwhile, the unemployed Bak-kwan resorts to pawning his possessions to provide for his father and child. Yuen plays the innocent child who constantly complains about being hungry, without knowing that his father is now making a living as a rickshaw puller. Filial piety is not just the recurring theme of the film’s numerous story lines but it also brings about the eventual reunion of the Yeung’s.
