The last work of the legendary opera librettist Tong Tik-sang, rendered faithfully for the screen by veteran and former opera actor Wong Hoksing with delicate mise-en-scene. Connie Chan Po-chu, protégée of the opera superstar Yam Kim-fai, plays the handsome scholar Pui Yu, a role written originally for her mentor. Nam Hung, better known for her turns in melodramas, gets to fill the shoes of Pak Suet-sin, playing the dual roles of the beautiful but straightforward Lo Chiu-yung and the sentimental but affectionate Lee Wai-neung. Also featured is Leung Sing-po, who appeared in the original stage production with Yam and Pak.
