1966 Hong Kong was all shaken up by the appearance of Prince of Broadcasters. Lung Kong's directorial debut was so powerful, so refreshing and so forward-looking that critics with any self-respect were compelled to rave about it and audiences flocked to theaters to get in on the trend. This might not have been the film that some had hoped would give new life to Cantonese cinema but it ushered in a
new era of Hong Kong films. Lung's eye in recognizing the influence of the new medium of radio and his ability to situate the film in a class context are markers of great things to come.
