The 17th chapter in the legendary Tora-san saga is widely considered as one of its best. The good-hearted itinerant peddler in the title goes through the same soap opera of laughing and fighting with his close-knit family and meeting a girl he can never have, this time a geisha who has been swindled out of her life savings. The new twist here is a mysterious old man who not only forces his way into the family but has the gall to boss everyone around. Yamada again switches effortlessly between humor and melancholy, realizing heart-warming drama with an all-star cast that includes Okada Yoshiko, Taichi Kiwako and a guest appearance by Uno Jukichi.
