A light comedy laced with sharp social satire, The Crowded Streetcar tells the story of a young salaryman in his struggles to keep pace with the hectic post-war economy. Ichikawa and his wife and writing partner Wada Natto create zany story situations that highlight the absurdity of the emerging corporate culture, animated by droll compositions and an almost surreal narrative tone.
