Sachiko is a prototypical Imamura woman. A plain and fat housewife whose husband openly has a mistress, the central character of Intentions of Murder is one day brutally raped by a burglar. Instead of maintaining customary honor by killing herself, she slowly finds a way towards self–realization. Earthy, unprincipled and unattractive, this most unlikely of movie heroine is nevertheless a woman of strength and perseverance. The film was shot entirely on location, including all indoor scenes.
