No dialogues, no narration, only music and sound effects. The Naked Island is the story of a family of four struggling through profound hardship to survive on an arid island. It's a touchingly expressive cinematic poem that captures with distilled images and elegant passages the life and dignity of human existence. Shindo made the film with a small crew of 13, leading a minimal living on a nearby island, much like his characters.
