Boy, like Violence at Noon (1966), is based on real-life events. The story focuses on an itinerant family with parents who train their small boy to fake accidents by running in front of passing cars and extracting medical compensation from the confused drivers. Oshima again mines the lower depths of Japanese society, finding in it compelling evidence of the ills that have inflected Japan on its march towards modernity.
