A rape and a murder have been committed and four witnesses present four different versions of the incident... Rashomon is a film that has assumed mythic proportions, not just because of its historic win at the Venice Film Festival but because it has become such an important part of our consciousness that the mere mention of its title evokes metaphysical notions of truth. It's also worth noting that the film's showing at Venice was partly the result of Madame Kawakita's lobbying.
