In Memory of Lydia Sum

Lydia Sum passed away on February 19, 2008. A film and television star for over 40 years, she was a household name in the Chinese communities all over the world. Her talent to entertain, her ability to make us laugh, her devotion to work, her sunny personality and her eternal optimism will always remain in our hearts. Although she was best remembered as a television star, she had also made indelible imprints on screen, wherever Chinese films are shown.

Sum had appeared in over 160 films, playing a wide variety of characters in vastly different kinds of movies. She could act. She could sing. She could dance. She made us happy.

In memory of a wonderful entertainer who had brought great joy to the lives of the Hong Kong people , the Hong Kong Film Archive is presenting a small retrospective of Sum's films from different periods of her career and an exhibition of stills and photographs.
